Lemonade out of Lemons Cowgirl Style

So, today was one of those days in the sewing shop!
See this cute little boot design?  It's cute right?  Well.....it was to be sewn onto a little baby onesie, and wouldn't you know, that the tiny little baby clothes were so small, even with a small hoop, the onesie wiggled just a tad too much and the machine broke it's needle as it tried to stitch on top of the snaps in the crotch...So after it put a hole in my onesie and broke my needle into 3 pieces, YES THREE pieces....I have this adorable design on a damaged garment.  So, I'm willing to part with it for just half the normal cost, and I think it will hold up rather nicely despite the tiny hole at the crotch...see photos.  Anyway...it's up for the taking at $11 to the first one who contacts me.  :o)  Happy Wednesday!!

Viking Husqvarna Ruffler Foot

So for years, I've been making ruffles the "old fashioned" way.  By running two basting stitches down the length of the fabric to be ruffled, and then tediously pulling the thread until the desired ruffle is achieved.  BUT, that takes SO much time.  So, I decided to splurge on myself and purchase a Ruffler Foot Attachment for my Viking-Husqvarna  Scandinavia Sewing machine.  I am in love.  This ruffler makes the most beautiful ruffles in seconds vs. hours!  I am thrilled to say the least.  Here's what the contraption looks like.  Looks like it could eat you for lunch, right?  Well, it's not really so scary once you figure it out.  I will post a how-to video later with this bad boy in action!

Sweet Baby Stuff

Have you ever felt minky fabric?  I just LOVE the feel of soft fabrics and textures.  Ask anyone who has ever gone shopping with me...I can't keep my hands off the soft stuff.  If it's silky, chenille, minky (below) or anything soft, I just enjoy feeling it.  (I guess that's why I'm constantly running my fingers through my kid's hair when they're sitting by me.)  If you have a fresh buzz cut and I see you, you'll probably get a swipe up the back of your head.  I just love soft textures.  

So, when picking out the BEST fabric for baby stuff, I want something fun and cute on one side, but the other side has to be the softest minky. I shop for all my fabrics from my favorite little shop; and my best friend happens to own it.  So you may find us pairing up fabrics together at midnight in her little back room/ online shop.  We have so much fun together!  You can visit her on Etsy as well.  Look for her under "shops" and it's called XOGigi Fabrics.  She has the best selection of children's modern prints anywhere!  And they're all designer names like Michael Miller, Riley Blake, Robert Kaufman, and many more.  (basically what that means is you CAN'T find them in your local fabric / craft stores, and they are much higher quality.  Thread count is much higher and the fabrics are softer, they wash better (don't fade) and they are generally better in quality control with regards to printing the fabric straight with the grain of the fabric.  If you are sewing the project, this is a big deal.  Crookedly printed fabric is like getting home from the lumber store with warped wood. "It just don't work."  

I'm sure these pictures don't do it justice, but I  hope you can some how imagine how soft this blankie is....

This is a Michael Miller fabric from the dinosaur collection.  Too cute!

In this set, I've made a 36" square baby blanket with 4 equal squares on one side, and minky on the back.  Measuring and squaring up these 4 pieces is harder than it looks.  You must be precise in your cutting and stitching, otherwise, it will end up crooked.   There is also a bib with an applique design that coordinates with the fabrics shown here,  3 burb cloths, and a sweet little "Lolli-tag Lovie".
